Q: How will race timing be done?

A: We have contracted with Colorado Race Timing, LLC to provide chip timing with splits for the swim, bike, run, and two transitions. Participants will be provided a waterproof microchip to be worn around the ankle. Results will be published and available at the event starting shortly after the first racers complete the course and updates will be about every 20 minutes after that. Searchable results will be uploaded to the Internet later that night. A timing mat will be placed on the beach for the start of the race to ensure you have an accurate time.

Q: How will the start be done?

A: Final determination will be made a few days before the event based on the expected number of registrations. Previously, there were three waves:
      Wave A - 6:00pm - men 34 & under and relay teams.
      Wave B - 6:03pm - men 35 +
      Wave C - 6:06pm - all women
The start takes place on the beach and each participant will be wearing an individual timing chip so your exact position in the wave does not matter. Strong swimmers might want to be in the front of the pack, others might want to relax in the back. It's totally up to you.

Q: Are wetsuits and swim caps required?

A: Wetsuits are not required but are strongly recommended as the water temperature on June 1st is typically around 60 degrees. Swim caps are required and your entry fee includes a custom swim cap for you to wear.

Q: What will be for dinner?

A: Lodo's Bar & Grill has created a special menu with multiple selections to choose from. The dinner is included for participants and volunteers and additional meal tickets can be purchased at the event for $5. We will also have 3.2% beer available for purchase.

Q: When is sunset?

A: Not until 8:22 p.m. and twilight is at 8:54 p.m. allowing for more than two hours to complete the course before it get's dark.

Q: What are the highlights of the rules that I need to know?

A: We suggest you familiarize yourself with the full USTA rules but here's a quick summary of some highlights:
• In the swim you can use any stroke to complete the swim course and can rest on the bottom or on any available floatation device (buoy, rope, boat, etc.). There will be kayaks and other assistance along the swim route.
• In the bike portion, ride on the right and pass on the left. Keep three bike lengths between you and the person ahead of you (i.e. no drafting is allowed). Complete your passes within 15 seconds. If passed you must drop back three bike lengths before attempting to re-pass. Helmets are required.
• In the run stay on the right and pass on the left. Walking is permitted. Stay on the course and watch for traffic as your safety is ultimately your responsibility.
• No headphones, iPods, etc. in any portion of the race are allowed.
